SPECIFICATIONS:
The SAS-101 Speed Advisory System is designed to
monitor the speed of vehicle traffic approaching a reduced speed limit zone or
an area where a safe operating speed is posted. Flashing lights are activated if excessive speed is detected
thus prompting the motorist to reduce speed.
Prime applications are at speed limit change areas, dangerous curves,
school zones, crossroads, plant entrances or any other areas where flashing
caution lights may be installed to alert motorist of a reduced speed zone.
The SAS-101 consists of a K band radar sensor
configured to monitor the speed of approaching vehicle traffic. A processor
analyzes vehicle speed verses posted speed and enables warning devices if
excessive speed is detected.
The antenna beam width and receiver sensitivity is
selected to restrict coverage to the area of interest.
Analysis of the return target defines the speed and direction of the
vehicle. A speed threshold ranging
from 5 to 80 mph in increments of 5 mph is selected to correspond with the
posted safe speed. If a vehicle is
approaching at a speed above the selected threshold a solid-state relay is
activated providing 12 VDC (120 VAC optional) to control an external signaling
device. To prevent rapid and
confusing status changes the last response is held for approximately 2 seconds
after the vehicle slows below threshold speed or for 6 seconds after the vehicle
passes out of range of the sensor.
The SAS-101 Radar Antenna is housed in a weatherproof
package which can be mounted externally on a pole, square tube or a flat surface
and is supplied with a 30 foot length of cable.
The Control Unit is mounted in the flasher cabinet or other suitable
enclosure.
Installation and alignment is simple and requires
12-18 volts DC @ 500 ma from an external power source.
The switching interface is rated at 5 amps DC (25 amps for the optional
AC relay).

battery pack, etc.
A substantial savings in power is realized when
installed with your continuously flashing light system.
The lights flash only when traffic is detected approaching at an
excessive speed thus conserving energy during periods of little or no traffic.
The SAS-101 is warranted for 1 year including parts
and labor.
